Frequently Asked Questions: Visiting Paris Museums with Kids
Which museum in Paris is best for toddlers?
For toddlers aged 2–4, Cité des Sciences – newly refurbished Cité des Enfants is our top pick thanks to its dedicated play spaces, hands-on exhibits and interactive activities. If you’re looking for an art museum, Musée du Louvre is surprisingly toddler-friendly thanks to Le Studio, a free family space designed for children.
Are Paris museums stroller-friendly?
Most major museums in Paris, including the Louvre, Musée d’Orsay and Cité des Sciences, are stroller-friendly with lifts, accessible entrances and baby-changing facilities. However, try to avoid visiting during busy periods, (after 11am) as you could end up waiting a long time for the lift. This is one of the drawbacks of visiting big museums like Musée d’Orsay with kids.
Are museums in Paris free for children?
Yes. Most national museums in Paris are free for visitors under 18 (and often under 26 for EU residents). Some special exhibitions and children’s workshops may require a separate ticket, so it’s worth checking (and booking in advance) before your visit. Also don’t forget some Paris museums are FREE on the first Sunday of the month.
What is the best rainy-day activity in Paris with young kids?
Museums are one of the best rainy-day activities in Paris. Cité des Sciences, the Louvre’s family area, Musée d’Orsay and indoor play cafés all make excellent options when the weather isn’t ideal. However, there are also great other options, such as Paris Baby Cafés. Find more Paris rainy day ideas with kids HERE
Can babies visit the Louvre?
Absolutely. Babies are welcome at the Louvre, and there’s a dedicated family space called Le Studio where little ones can play, read and take a break from exploring the galleries. Baby-changing facilities and lifts are also available throughout the museum.
How long should you spend in a Paris museum with toddlers?
Plan for around 1.5–2 hours. Young children usually enjoy shorter visits, especially if you combine your museum trip with a nearby playground, café or picnic afterwards. Find out what’s nearby your Paris museum of choice with this Paris Baby & Toddler Map
Which Paris museums have activities for children?
Many museums offer family trails, seasonal workshops and interactive spaces. Some of the best include Cité des Sciences (Cité des Enfants), Musée Rodin’s family workshops, the Louvre’s Le Studio and Musée d’Orsay’s family activities during school holidays.
What should I pack for a museum visit with a toddler?
Bring snacks, a refillable water bottle, a lightweight stroller or baby carrier, nappies, wipes and a favourite small toy or colouring book for café breaks.
Also, don’t forget to check out the Paris Baby & Toddler Map – which you can access via the Google Maps App on your phone when out in Paris.
PARENT HACK: Booking tickets in advance can also help avoid long queues. (Although usually you’ll be allowed to skip the queue when travelling with a baby or young children)
